Grittin’ it Right

it's Thursday, so be sure to check this post out over at StyleBy.Me!

Hailee Steinfeld has more than just an Oscar nomination under her 14 year-old belt. The “True Grit” star (or her stylist) has an impeccable eye for age-appropriate fashion without looking like early Dakota Fanning. From Marchesa to Prada, the girl knows how to work a dress and carry herself like the young lady she is.

Hailee was put on multiple best dressed looks for this ensemble and Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley raved about how this was his favorite look. Do I smell a cover in the near future!?

 {top: Hailee in Marchesa. bottom: sketch from Marchesa}

Hailee was given the opportuanity to help design her Oscar dress with Marchesa designer, Georgina Chapman. She wanted something tulle, tea-length, and a “dusty English rose” color. She got her wish and fashion critics everywhere did too.

The neckline, the hair, the simple accessories, this combination is unexpectedly young and fresh on the actress.

After sporting Prada at the SAG awards and sitting front row at Miu Miu during Paris fashion week, there has been a lot of buzz about Hailey being the new face of the line but nothing has been confirmed—yet!

If you have yet to see this film, go see it. She may even be a bigger badass than Jeff Bridges...

whiskers on kittens...

".....These are a few of my favorite things.." No matter how fabulous and relaxing a vacation is, when one returns to the real world, there is always a little getting used to. These are just a few things that made the 80 to 30 degree weather transition a little easier...

I've got the Greens

Today is St. Patrick’s Day which honors who other than, St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is full of cheesy four leaf clovers and pots of gold that are fun for party favors, not clothes. But what is included (and ok for clothes) is the color green.

Naturally being a May baby (emerald as my birthstone) I love that the color green is associated with the holiday but I don’t think it is worn near enough. It is indeed a bold color and is not seen a lot but when done right, it can be a knock-out.

 Amy Adams rocked a forest green Carolina Herrera gown at the 2010 Golden Globes. The contrast of her hair and the gown was divine. I wore a replica of this dress for my sophomore homecoming dance and was complemented on the color all night!

Angelina Jolie wore b-e-a-utiful emerald drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz to the 2009 Oscars...they started an epidemic by spreading to celebs like Kelly Ripa and Kyle Richards of the Beverly Hills Housewives.

 I took a trip to Chicago 2 years ago and the river was dyed green in honor of the holiday.

Fashionable Fruit: In Season

As I was flipping through the March “Power Issue” of Vogue, I came to their “FLASH” section and a giant banana caught my eye. It was a blown up image of an earring from Prada’s Spring collection.

Prints featuring floral or tribal zigzags come in and out but fruit!? I guess if Miuccia Prada says so...

Citrus fruits were reflected across garments on Stella McCartney’s designs at Paris fashion week.

This look can easily become overwhelming but if simplified and downplayed a little, it can be somewhat...refreshing.

treasure chest

 I recently took a trip to one of my favorite places in search of dramatic earrings for a school dance I was attending. I was wearing a one-shoulder dress with my hair up so I knew I didn't want a necklace but some dramatic statement earrings. Forever21 has long time been my go-to place for fun (and cheap!) jewelry but when I found these, it was on a whole other level. These crystal and chain earrings mimic high-end jewelers like Elizabeth Cole and La Vie and I payed maybe six bucks? Winner.

see a resemblance? Elizabeth Cole triangle earrings $133

P.S. For all of you out there who don't have a spare 2 or $300 to throw down on a fabulous necklace, try Rent the Runway...they have amazing jewelry including Elizabeth Cole for 90% off!

The Ethereal 70's

The few set of Fall and Spring seasons, designers have given us a taste of the “love-child” look from flowing skirts, peasant bloused lace, and even the notorious across-the-head headbands (which I am sporting as I write this). As 2011 drew closer and Spring trends were shown, a more 70’s vibe was introduced. And like myself, many of you have probably caught on to the fact that these two trends go hand-in-hand with one another.

Marc Jacobs did phenomenal work for his Spring 2011 collection. It was full of high-waisted bell bottoms and flower power hues.

{Mr. Marc Jacobs: Spring ‘11}

You would think a petite person like me (5’2” if you want to get technical) wouldn’t be fond of this trend- being enveloped in excess, flowing fabric. But with a little tweaking, one can go from a bag lady look-a-like to a Free People model. Keep in mind proportions. If anything is dragging, take it off. Play with accessories like floppy hats, feathered earrings, or a bright-colored satchel.

cate the couturer

 Cate Blanchett took all the fashion Oscars (if there was such a thing). She wore Givenchy Couture along with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry. Cate has a knack for choosing standout couture and wows me every time.
