festival de cannes

award shows always win my heart as my favorite thing to watch on T.V. a) because of the gowns and b) because of the gowns. although Cannes is not televised i still love to swoon over the fabulousness that is emitted on the red carpet. may 12th through the 23rd, stars gathered in the south of France to attend the 11-day long festival.



cate blanchett wore the late Alexander McQueen and fashion critiques everywhere fell in love. even when pregnant, cate manages to pull of the most fashion-forward yet effortless looks. cannes is known for the fashion maven to come out in everyone so a dress this couture-like is tolerable without bird jokes.

now my other choice for best dressed would have to be the other kate-- beckinsale that is. she was more than a vision in Marchesa who is one of my favorite designers. they are always whimsical with a tinge of seduction...perfect for kate.

it seems like no matter what new trend is said to come about, mens-inspired clothes will forever reign. flat oxfords, heeled oxfords, button ups, large watches, boyfriend jeans....the list goes on.

when wearing these trends, it's always good to keep in mind what one is wearing with them. an oversize jean AND a slouchy button-up AND a men's blazer--too much. try a frilly cardigan with a boyfriend jean to remind everyone that you do wear some of your own clothes; not a males.



This look from gryphon is a great example of doing mens-wear right. Yes, she has an over-sized blazer and somewhat mens-inspired button-up but she pulls it all together with the feminine shorts. It does help that they are gold and sequined. Top it off with a pair of flirty flats or subdued heel. (i say subdued because heels and shorts that short can be fashionably lethal)

happy mothers day to all! hopefully i won't become a mother anytime soon but when/if i do, i hope i'm as cool and fashionable as SJP. (pictured with son james)

a pivotal fashion moment in my life happened in the past week-- i purchased my first-other-than-target men's watch. a Michael Kors menswear inspired one! it has a gold face and the band is brushed silver with gold in the inside. what a great new addition to my left hand. the multi-strand bracelet is from the boutique where i work and the turquoise one was my moms that her mother bought her from an antique shop in New Mexico.

this weekend i styled multiple soles...

Masons had their Style Your Sole event with Toms Shoes. People come in, buy Toms, and go to work! By the end of the weekend, I felt like painted more flowers then I could handle but the event went amazing and it was a lot of fun!
