tess confess(ion)

In the small city of Fayetteville, Arkansas, there is a growing number of fashionable people. One of them being Tess Labeth. Apparel Studies grad from the University of Arkansas, a former Masonista like myself and starter of one of the very first fashion blogs in Northwest Arkansas,After One's Fancy, Tess now does visuals for Forever21 in Rogers along with styling personal clients. She has a positive ambiance that is contagious and every time I leave having a conversation with her, I am more inspired than when we started.

After One's Fancy is a colorful blog that reflects Tess's personality all the way. She doesn't like anything too fussy but definitely isn't afraid to add a few sequins here and there. She often blogs about her new favorite finds such as a pair of boots or a great statement piece. Tess is a large part of the reason I started my blog in the first place and with that I thank her enormously!

Thanksgiving. Definitely one of my favorite holidays. Although I was up early Friday morning selling to eager shoppers, I spent my day before eating, painting, reading, matching and once again, eating.

Rihanna looked absolutely stunning on Sunday at the American Music Awards. This Elie Saab dress is one of his Fall/Winter 2010 looks that was debuted on the Paris runway by the beautiful Karolina Kurkova. It is always interesting to see a dress on two different women, with two different hair colors, skin colors, and body types. Both women do it justice.

a baby zoe

It's official: Rachel Zoe announced via Twitter that she is indeed pregnant! I have been obsessed with this women ever since she started grazing fashion magazines in her Missoni caftans. I pre-ordered her book A to Zoe and was a religious watcher of her t.v. show (although sometimes a little over dramatic) which just fueled the fire even more. With all of this said, I couldn't be happier.

en VOGUE

In years past, the January issue of Vogue was designated to all things 'best dressed'. This year however, things have changed. According to Vogue's Style Director Alexandra Kotur, there are too many "ideas, photos, and candidates" to choose from. That is why this year they have come out with a special issue that deals with just the best dressed. So as of November 15th, this special edition of Vogue is on news stands and is going to be sold for a limited time only.

Some of the best dressed women included in the issue are Lady Gaga, Carey Mulligan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexa Chung and cover-girl Blake Lively.

Juicy'n Up

Earlier this year, I posted about Erin Fetherston announcing her design debut with another brand other than her own- Juicy Couture. I know when you think Juicy you think track suits and gold J's (or at least I do) but Fetherston is changing all of that. Last year the company experienced some financial turmoil but things are looking bright. And with Fetherston's recent release of the Capsule Party Season Collection, they are getting even brighter.

The use of rich color and texture mixed with Juicy's signature use of sparkles and femininity make for a great collection to shop for the Holiday Season. Well done Juicy.

P.S. Juicy is offering 30% off your purchase with the friends and family code, FFNOV. Ends November 17!

more than just red velvet...

When velvet really started to hit the runways for a return last year, all I could think about was my old gymnastics leotards with silver sparkles threaded through. But with edgy designers like Marc Jacobs and Charlotte Ronson, it is hard to resist the stuff.

The thing I love about this trend so much is the effortless look of it. Jeans and a white shirt plus a black velvet blazer instantly transforms an outfit into cool with the mix of textures. If a blazer or dress (like the fabulous champagne Anna Sui one shown twice above) is too much for you, opt for something smaller such as a clutch like the Juicy Couture bowed ones shown above. It may seem small, but that hint of sheen takes that extra step into instant luxe.

A hint to achieving this look is to stay with jewel tones and if not, make sure the color is flattering. Rich colors such as canary yellow, cobalt blue, and ruby red are always flattering on many different skin and hair colors. Once again, effortless!

halloween for fashion's sake!

Brad Goreski, Rachel Zoe's former assistant, had one of the best Halloween costumes I've seen this year: Style Rookie blogger Tavi Gevinson. While attending Lanvin's Halloween party Friday night in New York City, Brad perfected the look with Tavi's signature big bow, glasses, over-sized cardigan, and socks with heels.

P.S. while I was away (please pardon my terrible blog behavior) I found myself obsessing even more so towards...velvet! So stay tuned for tomorrow's post!!
